Tyson Miller passed through Heaven’s Gate on June 17, 2012 when he was in a car accident. His family and many friends were left to mourn his passing. Tyson was 17 and would have been a senior at Hiland High School, attending Buckeye Career Center. He attended Grace Mennonite Church and was active in the youth group. He also played bass guitar for the worship team and helped with Bible school. The fact that he found Jesus in a new way, at the drama “Heaven’s Gates & Hell’s Flames”, in 2007 made his family, friends, and the Hiland class of 2013 want to honor Tyson by presenting the drama again in his memory. It was the class’ wish to partner with Tyson’s parents (Duane and Emma Miller), the rest of Tyson’s family, the youth pastor at Tyson’s church (Wes Miller) and The Pier as host of the event. Administrators of the East Holmes School District were in full support of the event. The dates were set for September 9th-11th. Even after crowds were turned away, around 2300 people attended the production over 4 nights with a response of 325 people coming to Christ. Tyson’s desire to have his life make a difference and share Jesus with others was fulfilled.
